Is it possible to be coached online without ever being on the court with someone? Yes, if…
The athlete possesses a good knowledge of biomechanics from previous sports or in general.
The athlete has a fast wifi provider for speedy uploads and downloads.
The athlete has patience and discipline to work on their craft and get the videos out in a timely manner.
The coach has the latest in technology. One telestration app on a phone is often not enough. (I possess four apps or platforms I use.)
The coach understands technique, positioning, shot selection, and other subtle nuances of our game.
The athlete possesses a great work ethic and practices what is taught.
I often get a comment like how do you coach so many athletes? I love working with athletes of all levels. I absolutely love comments like:
“My knees do not hurt! This technique works!”
“I am beating people I never used to beat before!”
“My shoulders do not hurt! Thanks coach!”
“Coach, my game has gone up two levels thanks to you!”
I always reply to that last comment–something like this: “Your hard work makes me a hero! Thank you!”
Back to the “do I need to be on the court thing”. Video and talking things through works!
